Nice shot :D

I'd crop the right and the top a bit to declutter. Girl in the green dress should model more!

how did i miss this last night!!!!

well done. i have tried to get these captures before.. and was not very successful!!!! YOU DID GREAT!!!

DigitalTuned wrote in post #13521488 (external link)
I envy this man. Lol

Pic looks good tele WB looks good. Are u setting the WB on the cam to flash or auto? Just curious. Im just trying to get a feel of how you guys set your cams. I would however try to keep then in the center of the shot. But the pic looks good looking fwd to c more.

I started using Flash WB but then changed it over to Auto.. tough thing is i wasnt impressed with what was on the camera screen..

in case you didnt know... if you want to see someones flickr exif (as i retain mine for yall!!!)...
click the picture... when flickr loads.. click actions then show exif info

so i removed a mess of it.. here was the important part..
Camera Canon EOS REBEL T2i
Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture f/7.1
Focal Length 24 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash On, Fired
rtist Jeffrey J. Riggs
Exposure Program Manual
White Balance Auto
Compression JPEG (old-style)
Format image/jpeg

now when you say get the feel for how we set our cams.. i agree.. i always want to know..
i can say this... my 24-105L in a 10x12 room with door ways... was TIGHT!!!! i need something else..
i dont know if I am doing it right.. what was running through my head was F7.1 at least to get the group clear... i figured @ F4 the end girls would be oOF... am i wrong? due to that.. and flash i still had to go to ISO 400..
i had 5 minutes before people got there so i started firing shots to try different flash setups..

i ended up with on camera flash... for landscape just point flash straight up... (didnt use any of my DIY bounce flash cards)... in portrait mode. that was my challenge.. i havent tried that yet!!!!! for these shots portrait mode is a must... also since not a paid gig.. i didnt use a tripod..
but.... back to flash.. with flash on left of camera now in portrait.. had to twist and aim it upwards... it worked but was a challenge...

all in all this was an experience I am glad to have had... and my neighbors... great friends... the wife said.. hey dont worry you will have more practice as we have more to come.. hahahah.. as long as they have beer and food im there!!!!

I didnt stage any of the pics.... didnt tell them to tilt heads, didnt do nothing.. with 5 kids which equals about 10 parents.. it was tight....
and yes more to come.. im going to finish editing the pics as i got some funny ones too...

@ DigitalTuned/Marlfox/bobobird - thanks for the comments.. my neighbor knew it was an oppertunity i have been looking for...

now that shot of course was one of the better ones... i did alot in portrait mode.. but some in landscape mode...

umm we will call the girl in green "Amy" cuz that is her name.. hah..
anywho.. ALL of these KIDS had to be driven to where they are going... it was funny cuz i joked with Amy.. she said she was cold. so I told her why doesnt she try and wear some clothes with fabric... her father laughed and said.. see that is what I said!!!!

glad i have boys...

all in all these pics are grainy.. i will post more.. i was editing the RAW files.. but this one was jpg cuz i was getting tired and wanted to get to sleep but post something for yall.... so will finish up the RAW edits...
im also using LR.. i like PSE but I dont like the export of the pic.. it wont do JPG... and im stingy but i like JPG...
more to come in an hr..

side note on the crop.. i set my crop dimensions to 1024x768 in PSE so i can upload to flickr.. i do this all the time so i get max size pics and max size to upload to flickr for the month... so that is why the crop was how it was....

im giving my neighbor the entire folder... it will be RAW unedited, JPG unedited, RAW Processed... however he has a friend who is a PhotoShop GOD from what i hear... so maybe he will get his bud to process a couple that he really likes....

honestly i think your did great in the time you had to take this shot.. What you doing is good (schooling) which helps you understand more about photography but i believe that trough trial and error is the way to get to know your camera. Like where the buttons are for example. To be able to find them with ease while looking through the view finder helps you catch that one special moment v.s. looking down stopping and setting up.

IMO it is better for the kids to be themselves when taking pics. My guess here would be that the parents were helping, probably cheering on or just making them laugh cracking jokes, helping you capture a very natural smile and pose even though they were trying to set up for the group portrait. I can tell by their line of sight.. not really towards the camera..

not only does it look great but there is also a story behind the pic and i think thats where a lot of pics like this become very memorable and cherished.

to look at it again and again in the future and never forget what was said that very instant moment you took this pic to make them laugh. "OH YEAH!!! REMEMBER THAT?" they smile and laugh about it again..:D

nope.. no parents cheering on... they all had out their phones.. and i was looking and like.. wow these people are taking pics that are really good on their phone...
but now looking at my pics and the noise.. i bet theirs need a touchup..

this shows you the kids were themselves.. they like having fun and were making each other laugh..
here they are at it again...

I went out early this morning to get some images of the Lunar Eclipse from central Illinois. We didn't have the best vantage point here in the midwest but I wanted to make the post of it. I wish I was on the west coast this morning catching this lunar eclipse in its entirety setting into the ocean! I'm sure I'll post more moon shots as I edit them.
