My son has his very first Pinewood Derby race this Friday. Here is the car we built together...he is only 6 and I have never built one of these so we had some bonding/learning time together. LOL.

Thanks ALL!!!!! yeah lighting there is horrid.. and worst part.. i realize i need a UW lens now... a 2.8 or 1.8..... so many parents came in the rink.... and were like 5' away taking pics.. no one zoomed their P&S cameras in... everyone walked up.. so made it difficult with a 50mm 1.8....

side note.. i did realize i set my wb to tungsten i believe.. will have to check.. and i dont think i really needed to mess with the WB at all.....

pics are not great... i feel like i have flat spotted.... if you zoom in on the group shots.. iso 6400 has some noise.. but zoomed out like this.. they look fine... guess i need to stop pixel peeping!!!!

I put my camera in my bag to go walk down to the kids and missed it.. they all piled on the goalie!!!!!!!!!!!!

@trulie98 - nice job on that car!!!!! yeah it gets interesting ... at those... u make a car... by cutting wood.. but then need to add weights to get it back to LEGAL weight LIMIT!!!! in addiditon did you use graphite lube on the wheel nails? if not.. it helps.. if they allow it there... even though it is for the kids.. it is very competitive against the parents vs parents!!!!!!!

we did cub scouts for a few years but dropped out due to pack issues... it was fun... but we are so active already that we realized.... we are like our own cub scouts pack!!!!!!!!!!

peter, nice boids, as usual. Have you tried bird/water shots with a CPL? I'm wondering what the effect would look like. I really want to get a CPL and some ND and a graduated ND to start learning.

That's a great looking car. I'm sure he'll have a blast there. I'm the chair of my pack's derby (this weekend). This year I decided to add an adult's turtle race. The winner will be the slowest car that still crosses the line. I've made an air-powered brake that digs a sideways wheel into the track on the way down when it's going fast enough. Hoping it works -- at slow speeds, no air or track drag.

Next year I'll have two scouts in the house and we'll be making three cars! I'm hoping my oldest will finally tell me to stay away from his car and make it completely himself.

Thanks all for the well-wishes at the Pinewood Derby...I don't know what to expect. I love the advice so far though and it makes me wish I had posted something earlier. We have been learning as we go. If nothing else, his car looks nice. LOL

Nice looking use of the templates telefragger. Have you played with the WB in those photos yet? It seems like a quick RGB curve adjustment and you'll have them looking more normal (like what I did with your goalie save shot last week).
