taken with the kit lens 18-55. what if anything would you do better? im trying to learn.
less sky,or more ect.... keep in mind im wanting to photograph the beautiful teton mountains :)with this lens

Love the shots! I like #1 as to the balance of land and sky and slightly tighter image, but I like #2 for the pure lake reflection. I'm not a pro so unfortunately have no pointers as to what I would change. Did you use a polarizer? Like usual nice work!

Thanks Bobobird.....I know it is only 50.00 bucks but my camera bag is getting heavier..........

question to you bobobird..and to all.

When you go shooting do you bring all your gear?

If the car is going to be parked reasonably close by then a bit more gear but usually just a small bag with spare battery, blower and a bottle of water. Maybe a flash but not often.

The lens that will be most suitable for that day will go on the camera. If I am using just the long lens then the small S90 will go in the bag as well just in case there is a need for wider shots.

thanks you. that is what im trying to figure out.is it better to go tighter and less sky,or pull back and get more of the scene. yes, there was a polarizer on the lens. i guess a lot depends on what is in the photo itself .

Dian, they're both lovely shots, and either one works and works well. It will all depend on what you're facing at any given time of course, and the Tetons might call for a different perspective.

As for these two shots, like I said, both are just stunningly beautiful, but I think you could go with a little less sky (shot number 2). I would however, keep using that polarizer. The colors and reflections in the lake in shot #2 just pop.

If I had to choose one over the other here, I'd have to choose both. LOL

:)

My opinion is....

Number 2 is better because in number 1 the island is almost in the exact center of the frame, continually drawing your eye to it. However, both are quite lovely.

Did you shoot wider (like in number 2) and try to get less sky? I suspect not as the near foreground was probably not attractive.

Again, pretty good work.

All good points.and thanks for commenting. to tell you the truth, i was probably more concerend as you say with the foreground in #2 than looking to see how much sky.

Yeah,
I have to say knowing ZERO going into the book just reading through the first 15-20 pages gave me a HUGE new insight into things, and has helped me a lot already. I'm looking forward to really getting into it. With 2 kids I want to make sure I have tons of pics of them growing up.

Welcome, I am still fairly new too! I found this an exceptional resource. If you haven't looked it over check it out!

Im really leaning towards the wider angle of #2 also.i think what mite have worked in #2 and the larger amount of sky, if their had been some interesting clouds in the sky, thanks for the input :) the polarizer does work nice

What a great image as your first post and wonderful gift from your wife!

Peter,

Nice shots! You have a great eye!

For 50 bucks... and this kind of output, I would hang on to your converter. I recently picked up the Canon EFS 10-22mm and so far love what it does, I'm just not sure how often I will use it.

Thanks I think I will keep the converter. George the reason why I am holding up for the tokina 11-16mm is because I am hoping the Canon 10-22mm price will go down, I missed out on the refurbished sale last week it was 685.00 in Canon direct online store....:(,
