Quick enough focusing to catch a dog on the run. This is f/2

Thanks Tareq - I have a 5D and will get another one. Guess this is the wrong thread for this, though...

Did you decide on a lens? I've been thinking the same thing about weddings. The 70-200 2.8 is just too heavy for me, I wobble it too often.

She is so cute! Forgive the stupid question, how far away do you have to be to get her face all in focus at 2.2?

Thanks! Honestly I don't remember. I'm guessing I was maybe 8ft or so away?

Awesome shot....I feel this lens calling me.....and my wife yelling at me. ;)

How would you say this lens compare with the 85 1.8? And don't say 50mm ;).
In terms of bokeh, sharpness, contrast, etc?

What I like of it is the focal distance on the 5D...

is a mid point between the 85 mm and the 70-200..I fyou need more reach; couple steps do the trick.

It's sharp wide open...the 1.8 is not...the 1.8 is alright
faster focusing way faster than the 1.8
Better colors
Better IQ
Better Bokeh.
Better contras... and No too expensive.

Does anyone have an example at less than f/14?

Poor phrasing, f/14-22.

Poor phrasing, f/14-22.

That's going to be unusual.

Also, in that range diffraction softening will be a player. Put another way....the $900 EF 135/2 and the $200 Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 APO will look pretty much the same between f/14 and f/22.

If you plan to shoot a telephoto lens stopped down into the diffration limited range then you can save a lot of money and just buy consumer grade lenses.
