Its been awhile since I had something to shoot, I pretty much have been in a "photo rut". The Doobie Brothers were coming to town so I figured this was be a perfect time to bond with my Dad and take some photos. My Dad has been a Doobie Brothers fan since they first started playing back in the 70's and I became a fan after the first time I heard Black Water. I would consider the Doobie Brothers Band to be bridging the musical generation gap between the young and the old as the crowd varied in age immensely.

The ticket to the concert was free with a fair pass however we were limited to were we could sit. I made a huge error photographic of wearing my camera around my neck (most concerts do not allow photography with "professional"cameras) luckily nobody stopped me. We sat a good hundred yards away, I was glad I decided to bring my 70-200mm f4L . I still needed more reach.... It might be time to invest in a teleconverter. Im happy with how the shots came out especially because of the difficult lighting. I was able to crank the ISO up to 2500 and still get acceptable shots thanks to the 7D's strong performance in low light.

Its funny how many comments I get when I use the 70-200mm, My favorite of the night was, " Now thats a real lens". I hope next concert I go to Im able to get close enough to use my 30mm 1.4F so I dont have to worry so much about the noise in the photos.

** The main lesson I learned from shooting at this concert was to hide my camera until I get "in the crowd" or away from security. As I saw other people getting in trouble for shooting at the concert.**

Heres were we sat @30mm:

Second one is a nice overview. Best of the set.

#4 doesn't work for me in portrait orientation: Way too much (uninteresting & dark) audience. Also, there are no whites in the image. Stage looks nice though.

Although the more zoomed in ones (3, 6, 7) show the musicians better, they lack interest IMO because of the "so-so" moment, background or lighting.

Only so much you can do when shooting arena-distances. ;)
