At least it's got a retro look going for it! However ugly, it kinda looks retro. That seem to be the in-thing these days.

I disagree.

I should have saved the side by side, but there was still detail in the fabric swatches in the Pentax Q image while the Canon samples had them smeared to basically solid colors. I wasn't talking like DSLR good, but for a 1/2.3" sensor it was impressive. The ISO 3200-6400 samples did look like oil paintings, though.

Hmn....

Truthfully, I do see a market for this in the "Lomography" sector, Or people who are "uber artistic" and shoot Holgas and the like..To those people absolute image quality isnt important..the fixed focus fixed lenses they announced will likely have great appeal to those persons..

I'll reserve judgement on IQ until i see samples..I am a bit disappointed that Pentax didn't do an APS-C mirrorless like Sony, though there is the rumor they are working on one..so i can only hope..

Also final pricing hasnt been announced, Those are just placeholders

If they could make this into a cheaper plastic camera with a 70s feel and crank out more cheap toy lenses and in camera funky effects, this could easily be the hipster/holga crowd's go-to camera. At $800 this is competing with cameras like the X100 and Canon T3i!

I looked at them side by side, and I thought they looked pretty much identical. True, ISO3200 was hot garbage on both, and I have to assume the ISO6400 mode was intended as an inside joke between members of the Pentax Q design team.

Yehh and you can get the vastly superior Panasonic Lumix GF2 + 14-42 and 20mm f/1.7 for around $800 if my memory is serving me correctly

I almost bought a Samsung NX100 + 20-50 + 30mm f2 + small bounce flash for $625 at B+H the other day. Still might if the 30mm gets back in stock before the end of the month. Also kind of waiting for that new Olympus 45mm f1.8 to be announced as rumored. An m4/3 with a 20mm f1.7 and 45mm f1.8 would be a nice little kit.

Guess we will have to wait until the real samples hit to make a good conclusion on IQ. Either way, I don't care about this camera. If it had the noise control of a D3s, I would still not want to spend DSLR prices to get $100 camera DOF and flat boring images.

You mean the people shooting with $40 Holgas? All they need to do is sell their 20 Holgas and invest in this system.

I agree with that sentiment.

Eh, Have you handled the NX100 in reality? I have, its...Not very good...the ergonomics are pretty nasty to be honest..Especially with the 20-50 lens...

its not bad, But the Panasonics and Olympi, and heck, even the NEXs are better

And I was going to get myself a GF2 with the new Leica 25mm f/1.4 Summilux, But I thought about things and decided that honestly, what I really want is to experience full frame, so im putting my pennies aside for a FF body instead..

I'm enjoying my NEX-3. Not a bad camera for $530.

The Ergonomics are good, specs are good, Lenses from what i've seen are ok(Though I only had the oppertunity to use the 18-55), the menus are kinda what killed it for me...

Yeah I've handled the NX100 on BestBuy the other week. It's so fat without any grip. Their iFunction is pretty nice though.

Yeah, that's a PITA for sure. If they'd put a simple mode dial with a few "custom" slots on it, it would be perfect for me. The other buttons are customizable, so most of what I want to mess with is a quick change.

The new peaking focus assist is nice though. I need to order a Nikon adapter.

The appeal for me was mainly the price and quality of the 30mm f2. I did play with an NX100 at Bestbuy and thought it was pretty cool. Better than the EPL-1 and more real controls than the NEX. I really wish I had bought the GF-1 and 20mm f1.7 kits back when they were closing them out at $600, though. Now they are $400+ just for the 20mm.

Anyway, in the context of this thread the point was just who the $#!@ would buy an $800 1/2.3" sensor camera when all these other options are available? Maybe if they had licensed Leica's name... :)
