I'm really, really, really hoping the upcoming Zeiss NEX 24/2.0 is going to come out at UNDER $600. If so, then I'm gonna be pretty dang happy!

The appeal for me was mainly the price and quality of the 30mm f2. I did play with an NX100 at Bestbuy and thought it was pretty cool. Better than the EPL-1 and more real controls than the NEX. I really wish I had bought the GF-1 and 20mm f1.7 kits back when they were closing them out at $600, though. Now they are $400+ just for the 20mm.

Anyway, in the context of this thread the point was just who the $#!@ would buy an $800 1/2.3" sensor camera when all these other options are available? Maybe if they had licensed Leica's name... :)

The VERY sad bit is i was quite excited for Pentax to do this! Pentax has a LOT of VERY small primes that are superb optically! So I expected quite a cool little package

I JUST read about that, Please Sony! Make it under $600!

I might buy the replacement of the NEX-5 for it...provided Sony can get some decent menus!

The 40mm f/2 OSS sounds neat too though

Hopefully when they make their APS-C sized camera it will use K-Mount. Would love to stick their pancakes 40 and 70's on it.

Everyone thinks they want to use current DSLR mounts on a mirrorless system, but in order for that to work, the lens mount (and camera) would have to stay as thick as the old SLR system. So kinda kills the advantage.

I am sure they would have an adapter (or you could just use a Sony NEX with a K adapter now)

It looks pretty cool, i like the black with the silver lens. I don't have money so I can't buy it.

It'll probably get more traction if they priced it closer to what Canon is asking for their g12/s95. At $800 it sounds too much for what you're getting. Just like Fuji's X100, Pentax is trying to penetrate a niche market within a niche market.

+1, Using the same mount means nothing, its all to do with sensor to flange distance, if you used the same mount without the same spacing, sure you could mount existing lenses on there but they would not be able to focus

Though i DO have an idea, What if the mount moved on a bellows sort of thing?

I just remembered seeing a Kenko system a while back that had a 1/2.3" sensor, but it also used a C-mount so you could use all kinds of crazy CCTV lenses. It was also supposed to be $300. Kenko is under the Hoya umbrella, so they must have thought they could get away with selling a premium version for big bucks.

Here's the Kenko: http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com …c-mount-camera-announced/ (external link)

what a sad little camera. it would have been acceptable for 200-300$, but 800$ for a crappy tiny sensor is insulting.

You know what is even more dumb about the Q? The lens sizes are not significantly smaller:

Normal prime
Q 8.5mm f1.9 = 1.8 x 0.9" (Diameter x Length)
Samsung NX 30mm f2 = 2.4 x 0.85"
Panasonic 20mm f1.7 = 2.5 x 1.0"

Standard zoom
Q 5-15 = 1.9x1.9"
M. Zuiko 14-42 v1 = 2.4x1.7"
Samsung NX 20-50mm = 2.5x1.6"

Yeah they are narrower in diameter, but they aren't going to give you any more pocket-ability are they?

I disagree.

The extra $20s they remove from your pocket make more room for the camera. Less is more, no??

True!

It's funny to see the people over on the Pentax forums defend this thing by saying not everyone demands perfect image quality and you can make a good image with any camera if you are talented.

I gave you some props on DPR. Yeah, these Pentax fanboys are getting pretty bent out of shape about it. It's as though they all have some vested interest in the success of this "Q" system. Weird!
