Where did you find this information? CanonRumors.com? Sorry, but the fellow that runs that site really knows nothing about patents, what they mean, or how they are used in commerce.

It's funny to look at canonrumors.com and look at the previous patent announcements. Only the 70-200f2.8 II exists...

Patents do not mean a lens is being produced... Companies make TONS of patents each year only to do nothing with them.

Canon rumors is a RUMOR site. Lay off people, it's like those complaining Mcdonald's is not healthy for you. You should expect it take a few years off your life.

If anything, it should be for entertainment purposes only. Geeze.

and oneday I might actually get out and give the lens the fielday it deserves :) Certainly an optically good performer, not bad at focusing either. Though yeah working distances are, tricky ;)

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

I want one just to play around for shots of flower fields etc. Hard to justify though, where I live it's mostly dry shrub land, rainforest, or sandy beaches.

It has been a while since Canon introduced a consumer-grade FF prime. I'm starting to wonder whether we'll ever get any new ones from Canon (i.e. all either EF-S or L-series).

The Pentax 35mm limited is a 35mm f2.8 macro and well loved by the Pentax crowd.
