PC Video Card Recommendations

I'm on a budget, as we all are, but I'm looking for recommendations for a PC video card for photo processing. No doubt a dedicated video card is better than on-board video, right? Particular brands and models? What to look for in a card? What not to look for in a card?

My PC's specs (in no particular order):

  • Single monitor (maybe dual monitors one day, though). The monitor is an HP 2311x (WLED 23").

  • 8gb DDR3 RAM (will be 16gb soon, though)

  • AMD Phenom II X4 840 Quad Core processor

  • ATI Radeon HD4200 integrated graphics (which isn't bad, but a dedicated card would be way better, I'm sure.)

  • Win 7 processing RAW images in LR3 and some PS.

I'd like to keep the price less than $100, so I'm looking at 1gb cards. I've been eyeing this card in particular. Thoughts?

I can't personally recommend one as the one I just bought is fairly over your budget. Anytime I look for a new card for my PC or a new build for someone else I just look at whats in the price range and check how it does on the benchmark and google some reviews and eventually end up with 1.

Yes, a dedicated video card is always better as long as it isnt WAY older than the on-board one if one exists.

Now, in your price range, I just bought my mom the nVidia 9500GT LINK (external link)
Shes been using it with CS5.5 and its been a little workhorse.
