I'm trying to put together a power pack for my set of Dlite 4. I've found that most folk can use the samlex inverters with them.

However, when i put the samlex pst-60s (600w) with a 18ah battery the dlite 4 does what i can only describe as a pulsing beep when its recycling and doesn't seem to recycle very quickly, the battery also drops to 10.93v when it recycles. I'm using jump leads to test it so its not an inability to pull power from the battery. The pst-60s(600w) has the same features as the pst-30s(300w) that most folk use but higher output.

any ideas?

At the moment i use a apc su700 ups which works great but doesn't give me many bangs though.

Maybe you are using too long and thin cables or the connections are bad. Its all about how you can power the inverter.
I have exactly same inverter and it can power 2 BX500Ris (over 2 times more powerfull than dlite 4) at full power with no problem and recycle time is as fast as they were connected to AC outlet. Also 2 dlite-2 works fine at full power. I have no experience how dlite-4 would behave with the unit.
Im using 28Ah battery and wouldnt go under that

Thanks Semmonka,

I used jump leads to connect battery to inverter so it shouldn't be a power transfer issue. I'll try and test on a 35ah deep cycle battery in the week and see how it goes, I'm not being too optimistic though!

Turns out that Samlex changed the pst-30s a while back and the newer inverters don't work with strobes, so this may be the case with the pst-60s too since this is new.

I'll update one i have tested.

I used jump leads to connect battery to inverter

That maybe the problem. Jump leads are pretty long and leads I´ve seen have very small contact area on both clips. Togerher that will result in pretty high resistance and with all that current your inverter will draw results in too big voltage drop. If inverter input voltage drops too low for too long time, it just cant feed the inverter fast enough and that will result in output voltage drop. That will cause your strobes to behave in weird way.
I use 35mm2 (much thicker than jump leads) cable that are only 30cm long and on battery end I have good golden connectors that have large connection areas. I just want to have resistance (input voltage drop) as low as possible.

Do you know when they changed the design? My unit is about 3-4 months old

thanks man, I'll try shorter leads and a deep cycle battery in the next couple days and feeback then, hope thats the issue.

I tried shorter leads, a 35ah and a 40ah battery, same result. should have bought Bees!! Looks like I'll be buying another APC 700 UPS as this seems to be the only thing that works for the bloody Dlite 4 IT :(

Thanks for the help.

Youtube search d-lite 4 and vagabond mini. I threw a video up showing that a vagabond mini will work with 1 d-lite 4 but another user posted that if you get the vagabond mini in 230V version, you can run more than one d-lite 4.

Building your own inverter isn't really all that economical when you can find piece of mind in something that has been tested, tried, and proven.

so vagabond mini, vagabond II, and the innovotronix mini are compatible with d-lites.
