wilco instituted a similar policy for fans a couple of years ago, but didn't invoke any ritual sacrifice threats.

While I can respect the policy, and good for him, it would be better served if he was not such a notorious a@@@@@@. I wish more artists would implment the no cell phone policy. People should enjoy the moment not spending the time holding their phone infront of their face where they watch the phone instead of the artists. However, given Mr. Adams own personal hatred of his fans, one can hope no one shows up.
