(Disclaimer - I already posted this in the lens samples thread, but thought it was applicable here too - sorry to those who have already seen this!
Alright, I finally got out of the house to use my new toy (Zeiss 21) and I couldn't be happier. Although it is definitely sharper than my 17-40, its really only pronounced in the corners. Where this lens truly shines is in the micro contrast of fine detail.
Also important for me was the useability for landscape shooting. The manual focus scale makes shooting at the hyperfocal distance an absolute breeze, whereas I would struggle to get focus spot on with my 17-40 due to lack of live view and cruddy manual focus ring. With this lens, I just set the infinity symbol over the aperture number Im using on the right side and shoot - sharp at all apertures.
I have yet to try manual focusing at larger apertures, I imagine this will be a bit more difficult but probably manageable.
Here's the results from my first day out - composition was a bit of a struggle as Im not used to the 21mm focal length, but Ill get the hang of it.
Anyone want to buy a 17-40?
