Thanks you! That's what I was going for. I've seen shots done like this but the background subject is completely blurred.

I'm selling my 85 and love my 50 with my 60D...

interestingly, there are very few serious 50mm contenders out there... EF 50 1.8, EF 50 1.4, EF 50 1.2L, and Sigma 50 1.4...
the Ef 50 1.4 is due for a refresh... IS would be nice... sharper wide open would be much nicer...
