I tested out the nifty fifty for a project I'm considering. Not bad. I hate the focus sound and speed but the IQ is pretty good if you don't have a busy background. I've also worn out a plastic flange on my 18-55 so that has me a little worried. But for the price I suppose you can't beat it. I'm olanning on putting it in harm's way so I don't want to use my Sigmalux ;)

Welcome DJR ~ shooting Manual is a worthy learning curve to endure - especially when you have a 50 f/1.8 to have such potential to be creative with.

Learn the exposure relationship of Shutter-speed/aperture/ISO and you are well on your way. Apparently the book "Understanding Exposure" is Excellent, if you want to fast-track.

The Scott Kelby books "The Digital Photography Book" Vol. 1-4 are also very good resources. Vol. 1 has recently been updated.
