Hi, I have just started photographing (again), and I'm wondering about buying the nifty fifty. Could someone please post a comparison pic taken with the IS 18-55 kit-lens at 50mm vs a pic with the nifty fifty? It would be nice to see how much of a difference there is between them. Thanks!

Really, its a great lens. At $100 you absolutely can't go wrong. All you really need to ask yourself is this - how does my kit lens look at f/1.8?

Exactly. Pick one up. My copy is nice and sharp wide open, and really great at 2.2 / 3.2. The build quality is pretty iffy, so don't throw it against a wall or anything. Aside from that, its a great little 50 prime.

Its greatttt,Got one the other day not had any chance to take any pictures outside but even indoors in a not very well lit room it performs way better than the IS lens. I just got to get a flash then ill be sorted.

This is as close as I can get

100% crop from 18-55 is @ f5.6 55mm FL

100% crop 50mm II @ f2.8

The picture from the kit lens is wide open for the focal length where as the nifty fifty is stepped down a little, but being able to open up means that I never end up shooting fully open.

I definately find the lens sharper but for me the huge selling point is that it exhibits much better control over Chromatic Abhoration, that fringing on the kit lens is a real distraction... Lord knows how picky I will be when I get a really great lens ;)

Really nice subdued processing. I checked your flickr and noticed you bought a Skagen. For some reason I've always been fascinated with them and really want to get one, just haven't gotten to it yet :(.

Wow, I think I have to get it. Just hate the prices here, they sell it for around 110€ ~140usd. So if someone woud like to pick it up for me in the US and send it here, please contact. ;)
