Are both those shots with the same lens? It seems that one shot exhibits the out-of-focus blur that many would say have bokeh of 'disturbing' quality, while the blur in the other shot exhibits very pleasing and smooth bokeh

Perhaps the difference is simply that absence of highlight areas, so the bokeh simply differs due to one shot's absence of highlight areas within the background blur to exhibit the bokeh inherent to that lens.
