Firstly, it lacks contrast and saturation. This is because your camera's sensor isn't as sensitive as the human eye so the usual practice is to adjust this in post-processing. Secondly, it looks like you had auto-focus on. The camera has focused on the net, not on the girl's face. Ideally, with portrait shots, you'd want to make sure the eyes are sharp. When there's nothing in front of your subject, this is usually fairly easy to achieve. But when the subject is behind something - a net, a window, tree branches, etc - it's best to switch to manual focusing. Or you could stop down, i.e. choose a narrower (higher number) aperture. In post-processing, you can get it looking a little better by sharpening it. Good start, though. ![]() Thanks for the tips. I picked up Lightroom 4 the other day, which I also have no experience with, and I'll see what I can do. Yes I usually use AF and then go wide open to get the most blur. New to photography, all comments/suggestions appreciated.
