Hello! I have a 30d right now, and I really like it but having an improved body would be nice... I am considering getting the 70-200 F4 (non-IS), but I also really want a new body. SO lets say that I want to get a 40D or 50D (more likely a 50D), where on earth do I go to get this? Canon seems to not be an option, and I cant really find them 'used' for much cheaper than the 60d it seems. What do y'all do :P (prob yall are all able to get the $$ cameras cause your not a broke student!)

The used price of a 50D is still pretty high. I wouldn't consider the 40D at all. IMO, you should keep the 30D and use the extra cash for the 70-200mm IS version. Trust me the IS version is so much better than the non IS. Canon resigned the optics, the IS version is much sharper than the non IS. And for telephoto, IS is almost a must for handheld shots.

I initially bought the non IS, I returned it the next day and exchanged for the IS version. It is worth spending the extra money for the IS.

30D is a very good camera. I have 2 of them and really like them a lot. So I dont see the reason why you want to upgrade to 40/50D.
I agree with thestone11, just keep your 30D and use the money towards lens.
Good luck, hope that helps.

Especially if you're a student, I'd keep the body and get better glass. Unless there is just something you need out of newer bodies that the 30D can't do.

You can find a 50D on the Classifieds: Sell forum here or on the Buy & Sell board on Fred Miranda. Both places are fairly safe to buy from. Used bodies go anywhere from $600 - $700.

You can also check the Canon Store for refurbished ones, but you might have to keep checking every day until you find one. I check that page pretty frequently and noticed that products go in and out of stock pretty quickly.

$703 for the 50D and $799 for the 60D on Canon store for refurbished. If you really want to buy a body, I will go for the 60D for sure for only $96 dollars in difference.

I still would not trade my 50d for a 60d.

It would make more sence to jump up to a 7D- but since you cannot afford that--- its best to stay with the 30D. Invest in glass!

Okay thanks everyone for the knowledge :). I guess I will look into getting some nicer glass then first... but that IS is an extra 400 on canon refurbished... I dont think I can spring for it (since I normally use a tripod for my shots since im more landscape) I am starting to sell some work so maybe if that picks I can jump up bodies too!

I'm in the same boat. I would really like to get a new 50D. They're out there but they cost more than a new 60D and like you said used 50D's are around 700 to 800 for bodies which is nearly what a new 60D body goes for. I've fooled around with the 60D at Best Buy and just cant convince myself to buy one.

Wide angle is better for landscape though~! the 70-200 is more for wildlife or portraits. And trust me, the $400 is worth it to get the IS.

if you go through Canon Loyalty program you get 20% off the refurbished price with a broken canon P&S to recycle. I just bought a 50D with 28-135mm lens for $729 (included $65 in tax). I was checking every hour and finally got one at 9pm the other night.
