Hi. I am thinking of upgrading my camera. At the moment I have a Canon 1000D with a kit lens and Sigma 70 - 300mm lens. Any suggestions welcome. A friend suggested the nikon 3100D. I would like something that is good in low light and not too pricey.

Which Sigma 70-300mm do you have? Is it the APO version? You may be much better off upgrading your glass first. "Everything will be alright. I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

The Nikon D3100 is certainly a good entry-DSLR performer, but then again so is the T3i, etc. I love to shoot animals, plants, birds. I use the sigma most of the time depending on what I am photographing and the distance.

Your answer is really likely to be some combination of: - better technique; - using flash; - using faster lenses, possibly f/2.8 zooms, or perhaps primes. If your subjects tend to be static, using lenses with IS, or the equivalent, may also help. Thanks I will seriously think about all the advice given.

"What do you shoot, what is your budget, what makes your current camera no good, etc". You know, all the stuff that always seems to be left out... My junk
