Hello all, I have a Canon Pwershot SX210 IS, recently my daughter decided to splash with salt water...and ideas on how to get this thing working again? When I out in battery the "flash" light stays on, but the camera will not turn on. Any ideas?

Salt water? There's nothing worse (well, maybe sodium hydroxide) you can get on it. Sorry, but if it's not working now, there's not going to be much you can do to get it working again. Canon won't touch them for repairs since the salt will cause cumulative corrosion over time and problems will only get worse. You'd need to replace everything to eliminate the possibility of that.

does 'splash' mean a splash or did it get soaked?
I don't have any useful ideas but you could try opening up the camera to wipe out any residue. Not sure you could expect much of a result but if the cameras not working right anyway then I guess it couldn't hurt to try

#1 take the battery OUT! and your card. Cards can survive lots.

Hairdryer on low. Patience.

or trying dunking it completely in distilled water to try to get rid of some of the salt and then use a combo of the hairdryer and letting it air dry, preferably in an air conditioned room. Takes ages to do right, but I've seen cameras "rescued" that have had more than a splash.

BUT

Salt water is a bad thing for cameras and even IF you get it working again, it likely won't stay working. Time to go shopping, I'm afraid - your camera is toast.

and if it is totally dead....
search for info here on the "canon loyalty program". You can send them the dead camera to get a good discount on a refurbished camera straight from canon. And most of their refurbs are practically brand new (except warranty)

It actually got wet from the pool on our cruise. I think I will have to take a loss on this one-not sure it can be repaired. I pu;;ed it apart and there was nothing corroded or wet, but still not turning on. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Thanks
