I picked up my laptop ~ $1100 with taxes. I got one because my old-arse desktop coudn't handle any pp or even displaying pics. So the laptop purchase was to support the photo "sickness"... errr... hobby.

I have an MBA w/ Snow Leopard that I run LR3 on, but all else is on my home-built PC...which is a core2-quad (old Q8200) w/ 4GB of RAM, a 30GB SSD for the OS, a 1TB Samsung for mass storage, a Radeon 5750HD, an external USB DVD writer and a mini-ITX Zotac board in a tiny black case with a 300W PSU. I bought a builder copy of Win 7 for ~$100 back when I built it almost 2 years ago.

I don't mind cobbling a PC system together. I still have a desktop with an AGP ATI card with crap drivers. Inadequate video that kept crashing when dealing with photos. Yah, way overdue for an upgrade. Got sick of dealing with it. So, the laptop is my main 'puter now though.

My laptop was also a much needed purchase! 15in MBP quad core sandy bridge
