Just a quick couple of edits. Boosted the exposure a bit, and cooled the image's white balance down some. Thusly making the colors pop more and help separate your subject from the background more.

the lights i have are about as bright as a candle. i need some more expensive ones. only the second time that i have done this kind of thing. i wasted many years thinking about it. i'm the kind of bloke who waits for someone to go first and no one ever did. so i have jumped in and right now i'm drowning. everything i do is hope for the best. so any advice is welcome.converseman thanks for your in put. and everyone else thank you too. hope to get better soon.

Just offered some cc. Meant no offense. I think these are really good you just need to reposition your lights a bit. Like converseman said try a bit higher and maybe a bit closer. You can bump up in post.

No unfortunately it's not a filter, I used curves, colour balance, then a dark grey colour fill layer to reduce contrast, and lastly I used the noise filter.

curves are not something i know much about rhys216. i will have to look into it, you have made me think i'm missing something. i like vary much what you have done. i have made a pigs ear of another photo. i am putting the before and after up. to find out how other people would do there stuff. and with a bit of luck i will learn some more cool stuff.
