How do I permanently hide threads which don't interest me?

Are you talking about individual threads or complete sections? If you want to hide a section, click on the

HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'text/html'

You cannot hide threads on thread level with vbulletin.

But you can hide all posts and threads by individual users by putting them on ignore list in usercp.
