On the topic of which studio or portable lighting system you like the best for shooting weddings. No what is better than the other, just your preference and why. I prefer speedlights, because of their portability. I find that unless you shop around it can be just as expensive to find a few alienbees strobes (and now that they have the mini out it makes me wonder).

So alienbees and 580 exs here. Various modifiers, mostly stripbox and PLM, reflector and gels. What do you all use?

Since I'm solo it's speedlites, if I were not solo it might be strobes, probably not alienbees design.

Speedlights also. Quick, easy, and portable. I've never felt the need for anything more. As for modifiers...I use a 28x28 Apollo Softbox...otherwise I just shoot em bare.

Speedlights for preps, strobe for formals (just got vagabond mini last month, love it), speedlights for portraits, strobe for dancing/toasts with on camera speedlights.

I use both speedlights and/or mono lights depending on the venue. There is no one good "one solution fits all". However, many people get by with just speedlights but mono lights have their advantages.

Speedlights. Specifically YN-560s, 580EX IIs, and some wireless triggers.

I use Speedlites most of the time. In bigger reception venues I sometimes use AlienBees, but in smaller venues they're too intrusive because of their size, and their need for mains power's annoying. They're larger than i'd want to carry around on location, so if I wanted a portable lighting system i'd get something different.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I'm testing constant lighting instead of strobes, a lowel id-light.

I'll see your 283's and raise you Tim's old Sunpak 383's.
Of which only one works.......

But then I don't often shoot weddings, so one is more than enough.

Hey you could've fixed them! Maybe. Depends how much damage I did, and which ones I found for ya. If I find another i'll send it up.

One of them works really well, the other had a short in the power cable, and it's shorted something inside the flash. The cap charges, then dis-charges then recycles again. But no flash from the blub.
I'll pull it apart one day and have a look

As long as it was smoking something legal and outside, it should be fine
