Damn awesome pics efm-7, I was like "I wonder what camera he is using to take such amazing pictures" and I am totally jealous of your x100

On the note of TdF, it's been a crazy weekend, or rather a crazy TdF with all the crashes that have happened

Well gang, I finally made it through all my shots from yesterday! Some family members called and assisted that I go with them for an outing to a local nature preserve park and then a barbeque so I was distracted for a few hours!

I decided to bike up to a bus stop and take one to my first photo "target" on the other end of town: the old cemetery.

Well, some "urban art" was decorating the bus stop, and I got the urge to photograph it, so my first photo of the day:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136286905/original.jpg

And I was off! The route went by the cemetery, I hopped out, and started by parking my bike at the overgrown front "entrance":

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136287687/original.jpg

I got a lot of shots from there (I put them in a sub-gallery in PBase) so I'll only foist a couple on you. Note the born/died dates on this:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136287544/original.jpg

And then this -- back in the depths of the graveyard an old crumbling sarcophagus with the only identification being the initials you can see, CLG:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136288666/original.jpg

From there I passed this very long-standing and respected institution, one of a pair (the other being the school for the deaf that is quite close by:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136288874/original.jpg

Then, the road that I was on led me into a park. I mentioned yesterday about the bike/skateboarding park -- well, I had maybe two shots that weren't a complete embarassment, this being one of them:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136289368/original.jpg

More on the next post!

By the way, I believe I mentioned that I ended up with over 300 shots from the day, and ended up putting roughly 80 in PBase. I started several sub-galleries for the different places I stopped! Here's the PBase site if you are interested:

http://www.pbase.com …2011_biking_photog_outing (external link)

Anyway, from the park I headed straight for the "International Festival" a ways away, but a quick bike ride. I was somewhat amused that the first "presentation" encountered when walking through the gate was the local law enforcement:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136289733/original.jpg

But at least there was some diversity:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136290302/original.jpg

After a time there it was off to the wetlands. On the side of the boulevard I was on it was fenced off as a "reclamation" area, so I did some portraits of my bike:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136291816/original.jpg

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136291821/original.jpg

The actual wetlands was a disappointment! The "wettest" I encountered was pretty skimpy, although they were doing some restoration work:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136306228/original.jpg

So, I headed out again, going downtown where I took a bike portrait and then encountered a Street Party with music!:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136307693/original.jpg

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136312768/original.jpg

Well, I won't bore you with more, but suffice it to say that I was, despite a couple disappointments, pretty happy with my findings as a Biking Photographer!

I should say, I shot with the 30D and packed two lenses, the 16-35 and the 24-105, and was glad I did. I shot mostly with the 16-35 but there were times when the 24-105 met the need. All stuffed into my little backpack:)!

Ok, so watching the tour today did nothing but piss me off. Stupid drivers. That was a terrible accident, and then there was another

Although, I will say, yay for Rabobank! Got their first win, and on my next new bike ;) 2012 TCR here I come :)

lol the X100 is a lot lighter than my "new" Canon 5Dc, that's for sure. Although the physical workout and shallowness of the DoF aren't nearly as good as the Canon :) Just to note, only the top 3 were shot with the x100, the next two are with the 5D + 50/1.8II, and the last one is just messing around with an old crappy Olympus Trip 35 I found at a thrift store

This is the detail shot of what caused the flat yesterday. It happened 1 mile into my ride. Im convinced this wall was weakened in my crash in June.

I inflated the tire up to 80 psi and was able to ride the rest of the 39 miles with no issues. I was really pushing it too. So im happy the wall held up.

Im looking at picking up some Continental GP-4000s. Great all around tire for all purpose riding. Ill also pick up a pair of Bontrager R3-Roads for my rides in Central Park.

Someone said it around here "Tour De Crash" is what its been like. The guy should be criminally charged for what he did.

I might go Roubaix SL3 Pro SRAM next year ;) put having shimano put in the Di2 into the ultegra group might prevent me from such a move

Hey thanks, Omar, but it's gonna take some real practice to be able to get any decent shots from that sport!
