Yes the AB is only great value in the US, why people in EU even consider them is beyond me.

Agreed. Think about having to send them in for repair. It'll take ages.

we don't have any/many cheap options here which is a bummer, even the explorer is the same issue, $389 us BUT £399 gbp  The Elinchrom and Calumet packs are none starters for none pros (i guess some pros would struggle with their prices too!)

You have Interfit, Elinchroms D-lite series, and Bowens. As for portable power the xplorer isn't exactly expensive.

Why does Innovatronix hate Europeans...that's 1.6x as much as we pay in the US?

Sorry...had to say it ;)

Look harder at your taxes and import duties and you'll see the answer. You can say it's cheapest to get someone to send it to you from the US, but that's bypassing your taxes, so it's sort of "cheating" when comparing those costs to costs of doing business in the UK...
Better question would be "Why do you guys keep voting people in who crank up your taxes to let them keep adding their buddies to government jobs w/ crazy pensions?" (Not that it's that much better here in the US...it's gotten a lot worse over the past 10 yrs)...

1.6x sounds like how much more it costs to import/sell in the UK. Then if you add a distributor (that has to maintain a warehouse of stock, customer support people, etc.) with my 50% rule, PCB doesn't hate you...it's just the cost of business.

I'd look at Bowens QuadX packs over there...

I meant it was more expensive if you take as standard the U.S. prices.

Ahhhh Ok we are on the same page now

Probably has something to do with what it takes to make a unit 220/240v as opposed to 115/120v. Electrical stuff when going from "American" to "European" has to be tricky.

come on... converting unit costs additional 25$ to usa price.
they charge for s&h twice from normal rate.

I'm looking now to get a 230v VBM from PCB, I'm astounded at the difference in price for what is essentially exactly the same unit.

In the US it costs $240=£149
http://www.paulcbuff.com/vagabond.php (external link)

In the EU is costs $495=£310
http://paulcbuff.eu.com …se&category_id=9&Itemid=1 (external link)

More than double the price if I buy in the EU.

M.

Not to defend PCB (I really don´t care about him or his products) but to shed some light on why electronics are more expensive in the European Union (EU):

The problem is the tax system in the EU, since they try to protect their manufacturers inside the EU to allow them to grow (or that´s the excuse), they apply a high tax to electronics made outside the EU, you can see it in cameras, computers, studio lighting gear, etc.

So that´s why many imported electronic products are way more expensive here in Europe than in other parts of the world.

So it isn´t PCB fault

Government budgets in the US (and probably the UK) were growing like crazy before even the mortgage/hedgefund debacle. It's sort of a like a self-perpetuating cancer. They grow fast when the economy is good but refuse to cut back like the rest of us do when the economy goes south...they tax more to make up for their loss in revenue under the guise of "it's for the children" (aka, you'll lose parks and schools) and "you'll lose your police and fire departments" (aka safety).

If the UK does have penalize electronics imports, that would explain a huge portion of the difference too. But the math sounds about right...1.6x in taxes/duties...50% for a new distributor level on top of our prices. There's pretty much your 2x our cost...
