I'm working on a project that doesn't allow me to take multiple lenses with me. I'm taking my 24-105 with me, but many times it isn't long enough. Any recommendations on a good lens that will work with my 5D MkII yet would cover 24-300 or so? No L's available in this range that I'm aware of.

Well. I'll be doggone. Too bad I don't have $2500 at the moment.

aside from spending the $2500, you're looking at a minimum of two lenses. Why the extreme limitation for that focal range?

Two lenses or one of the consumer grade 28-300's with the subsequent loss of IQ.

I have lenses covering all those ranges, but my current project doesn't allow for carrying extra lenses. The consumer grade lenses that cover that range are made for the cropped sensor (I think)

What kind of project, though? School or Work?

Tamron 28-300mm both versions (VC & non VC) work on crop and FULL FRAME.

6D, 5D, 7Dii, Eos R and too many lenses, flashes and aux. gear to list!

Too bad you specifically need FF--lots of cheap options available on APS-C format

How about the Canon 18-200 on your 7D? Those are actually capable of quite good results at F8

And the non-stabilized Tamron 28-300 is very cheap.

Ahh, that's actually true--around $600. Don't expect stellar results though

KEH has some used ones for $350, or $180 for the non VC

OK, got it. My daughter has the 18-280 that she uses on her 7D, it was made for the cropped sensor.

If the 28-300 L is too expensive, Canon also used to make an EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6 L USM. They are much less expensive used. I don't know if 35mm is wide enough for you however.

I have a Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 lens which is full-frame but the image quality isn't great. The contrast is low at 300mm. Using the hood, stopping down, and post processing help though.
