I have the 50mm f/1.8 II but i dont necessarily like the plasticyness of it. So heres my main question. Which one should i buy?? "While at a house party, I was told, "You take great pictures. You must have an awesome camera". I kept to myself the rest of the night until I was leaving, then I said, "Dinner was great. You must have an awesome stove."

Jun 27, 2011 20:22 | #2 Instead of a new lens, I would pick up a full frame body and use your 70-200 MK II. Sony A1, 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II, 70-200mm F/2.8 GM OSS II, 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS, 35mm f/1.4 GM, Viltrox 16mm f/1.8, 1.4X TC, Flashpoint flashes

Jun 27, 2011 20:25 | #4 ya. i just bought the 70-200mm and it was either that or the 5D mark II that i was going to get. I decided that a lens last longer and will have a greater impact on my pictures than my camera body so i went with the lens. I'm hoping i made the right decision (which i think i did), but a 5D mark II is the next item on my list. I'm just trying to build my wishlist of lenses. Very accurate, but not good for anything moving. The 50L has the focus shift characteristic that you need to be aware of. I hear the 85L renders the background smoother. The 50L is weather sealed if you add a filter. The 85L is not weather sealed. If you want a good 85mm then look at the 85 f/1.8. I love this lens. Very fast focus. Very sharp open. Even though some complain it is not. The weight of either L is significant compared to the next equivalent Canon lens. I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!

If you are after the slimmest DOF, the crop sensor will be your limiting factor, at some point. Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I voted for the 85L as the portrait lens of choice, it's the king of portraiture. For a overall kick-ass walk around... 50L, but that's my opinion due to my focal length and operational needs.
