The second one has wonderful eye detail and perfect DOF, but with this magnification, I do not understand why you chose to crop the bottom part of the eye and leave empty room in the top part, it would have been an amazing portrait with the whole face in the shot.
It's not so much a choice. It's just how it turned out. When I get a willing target like this little guy I start taking the stack so I get the whole critter and then a few sets closer. The stack set where I had the whole head was just not good. He had moved midway and I didn't notice until I started stacking the images. These was the next set and he stayed still. The first pic in the stack actually had much more of his lower eye in the image but due to stacking artifacting, I had to crop it.
