I can't imagine anyone would do something like this!
Perhaps the Canon 5D Mark II was beyond repair, OR this person is mighty rich and stupid. 
OR this was in the waiting room at Nikon service department.

The owner of that camera really blew it. Smoke odor can drastically reduce the resale value. He'll have a hard time getting rid of it now. Marc
