Hi there, brand new to this forum and photography. I'm amazed at all the talent and pros here! Okay, so couple shots I took recently. I'll be the first to admit I don't know what I'm doing so by all means any feedback will be appreciated!

One thing I am trying to understand is the ideal aperture for night shots (usually wide angle). In the case of my Canon 17-55 f/2.8, I stop down to about 5.6 or 7 or maybe a little narrower to get the larger DoF and improve sharpness a bit. Are there any benefits to f > 8 or 11? Other than little things like the pattern of the glow emitted by street lights I'm not really seeing much a difference yet, although I haven't experimented much either.

Couple sunsets. In the one with the building you'll notice it's not as sharp and that's because I took it before I learned to shoot with mirror lockup/timer. What a difference that makes!

Full moon. Didn't realize at the time that I'd get that flare from the moon with the UV filter on. Went back the next night and got some great moon shots sans flare, but my shutter speeds were all too fast (< 3s) so all of the buildings were underexposed and i didn't get enough light around Diamond Head that time (the silhouette you see below the moon). Oh well, next time.

Welcome to the forum
A great start, though I think #4 is the standout, both in terms of exposure and composition.
Why not the others.....?(though they are pretty good)
#1 - a little boring IMHO, nice sky though
#2 - not loading
#3 - NIce scene but seems a little over processed. A little crooked
#5 - cityscapes are best when there is still some light in the sky. You could remove the flare
#6 - underexposed

cheers, Paul

A nice set ... evokes some great memories from when I was there last year :D

I like 1 and like where you are going with 6. I think you need to print 4 and hang it on your wall.

Fabulous series, I see no need to stop your lens down any further, they all look nicely in focus.

Lovely series, just make sure your horizons are all level.
#3,4 are wonderful when leveled.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

Thanks for the feedback! Hmm wonder why that one isn't showing up for some, Flickr says they are all public and they show up on my screen. Oh well, you get the drift. Appreciate the comments and suggestions!

Now that you mention it, I can definitely see how some were underexposed and (most) could use some better composition. I don't know why exactly, but my favorite was the last one, the one with the palm trees and city scape in the background.

All shots with a tripod, the wide angle shots were with a Sigma 10-20mm usually at 10mm, and the rest were with a Canon 17-55mm.

Alright time to get out during the day and get some more shots. Till next time, aloha!
