Hellooo!

I spent the weekend in Hereford working for 2Faced Dance Company, and Detonate is their annual show for all of their groups, classes, and the Youth Company to perform what they've done over the past year ...

I photographed the dress rehearsal, with the primary remit being to take photographs that could be sold to parents, but there are a few I like as images - mainly from the excellent second half performed by the Youth Company, which was certainly aided by some lovely lighting featuring 50 domestic light bulbs ...

One of the better ones for sale purposes:

Some from the second half, with light bulbs in varying states of On:

All forms of C appreciated ...

Yours, shortly before another post,

Owain.

Dance is hard as it inherently needs motion to translate emotion, pictures cant do that. So you need to get interesting positions and poses. I think you got some great ones. But the first, fifth and sixth do nothing for the troop. They look like test shots for the others which are great.

No question, dance is very tricky but I do think that photography and dance can lead to some very striking images where the motion of the dance is arrested at precisely the right moment to create something remarkable, and unbelievable ... I'm not saying I've done that in any of these, just that it happens - someone like Chris Nash is a master of this suspended motion and disbelief.

Completely agree that the first, fifth and sixth aren't as interesting for the dance moments rendered as two, three, and four. Five and six are, at least for me, more about the lighting, which is a big part of what made the second half of the show special ... the first isn't even that, but it did make his mother very happy (to see her son front and centre of stage) - which is really what it was meant to do so, it at least serves that purpose.

Thanks for the input ...

#2 and 4 for me.
#3 is a nice shot, but the clipping is bugging me…

I think with some work on the clipping, #3 might be worth using in my portfolio as an interesting image with the lighting, suspended light bulbs, and a decent moment, but I would need to sort the clipping ...

Yours, a little divided,

Owain.
