does the canon 1.4x converter work on the tamon 70-300 sp

If you mean will it continue to autufocus,no unless you have 1series.
It becomes f8 with a 1.4 TC and with the exception of the 1 series all Canons won't af over f5.6
It should work MF (if it fits) but the IQ will not be up to much and the viewfinder will be very dark.
