i7-930 is slower than latest Intel i5-2500K or i7-2600K processors, while being the same price.

Yes. But i7-930 is plenty fast for any image editing.

For that price, I will just build my own i7-2600K rig with 64GBx2 (raid) and a fairly decent video card.

I doubt it, unless you get *extremely* great deals on all components and have the technical skills and inclination to do so :)

processor - 200
2x64GB SSD - 200
motherboard - 150
9GB RAM - 125
(decent) Video card - 100
cabinet - 75
power supply - 75
large capacity HDD? - 50 to 100
Windows 7 license - 50 to 75
DVD drive - 25
keyboard, mouse - 25
card readers, cables and such - 25
Your time - ???
Plus, Dell service sends a tech home next business day to replace any parts free, while under warranty (2 years in this case).

Of course building this configuration gets you a faster system, and it provides better upgradability. But it is feasible only for a few people.

As for this deal, I have seen better deals from Dell. But this is pretty good too. People who needs a good computer now could get it (not sure the coupon is valid now)

There's been a deal going around for refurb/scratch and dent Dell i5-2300 systems. I bought mine with 6Gb ram, 1 TB drive, refurbished for $439 (including tax, after registering my AMEX card for an extra $40 off).

How is that new system doing for you. Did you get it up and running with all your files transferred and your previous programs installed?

Yes, it was smooth transition. I love this new machine. I had a 4 year old AMD Athlon X2 5000+ (dual core, 2.6 ghz) and this system is about 4-5 times faster than that. Now I don't have to wait 8-10 seconds for certain operations during my RAW editing, everything happens virtually instantly or in 1-2 seconds most.
The "ergonomics" of the case is pretty good too with 4 USB on the back, 2 on top and 2 on the front.

Why are there two i 7 2600 processors listed in that link with two different prices and speeds?

There is an i7-2600k that has the multiplier unlocked for better overclocking, and there is the i7-2600 without an unlocked multiplier.
