going to the following places: Zion national park, Antelope Canyon, Bryce canyon, Lake Powell, Kanab and Vegas.

I'm thinking of travelling light, as I will be bring my 2yr old daughter with me to the trip with my parents.

I will bring my 5D2 + 50 f1.4 + 16-35 II (rental from BL). Is that enough or should I also bring my 70-200?

Any suggestions from members that have shot in those areas before? Also, any pointers would be very helpful~

thanks.

If it's a photography trip, I'd take the 70-200 along. If it's a family trip, and the photogrpahy is incidental, I'd travel light and leave the 70-200 at home.

Depends how you are traveling. Car, motor home, hiking, bus, if it's not going to take up space and fit I would take it as you might have that one shot that you say wish I had that 70-200. if your hiking and it's just going to take up space and weight along with a two year old then don't take it

When you say you are traveling light, do you mean what you will carry on your person or the trip itself?

Personally, if I have access to a car (or hotel room for that matter) I bring anything I think I could use and then leave something back when going out to shoot if not needed.

wow.. thanks for all the inputs. it will be a bus tour, so i won't be driving. there will be a part where we have to hike about 1 hr. which i wouldn't want to bring the 70-200. last time we went to crater lake, i brought my 30D + 17-55 and it did very well. except i didn't have that range available, that's why i rented the 16-35 for landscape. thought about renting the 24-105, but i wanted something wider and didn't want to rent 2 lens.

24-70 and 70-200 is my all around kit. Can pretty much capture anything with those two. That being said, my vote is to bring the 70-200.

If you bring it probably chances are you'll never use it. if you leave it I can gurantee you there will be at least one situation you'd say "I should have brought"

I've traveled with a 5DII and 24-105/4 and 70-200/4 and found it good for most occasions. You going with the 16-35/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 would be awesome. The extra range on the wide end and the extra f/stop should cover everything and I don't think you'll miss the 36-69 mm focal lengths.

BTW: I've also carried a 50/1.4 for "insurance" but have NEVER used it during a vacation trip.

Have fun.

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.
