I have my own website and it is independently hosted. I have some very basic pages of photos that I have taken displayed but thought I would try to do better! LOL!!

I have installed Wordpress - latest version and will work with that for the intro and general blog but I have noticed that people use different image handling programs or plug-ins for the galleries.

Is WordPress sufficient for everything or do I need to start looking for a photo image display software also. On the site I have the "Host" provides several programs to be used by the users:

Coppermine - v1.5.12
TinyWebGallery - v1.8.4
Gallery - v3.0.2
LinPHA - v1.3.4
Piwigo - v2.2.3
Pixelpost - v1.7.3
Shutter - v0.1.4
4images - v1.7.10
ZenPhoto - v1.4.0.4

Any of these worth trying IF I need an image software or should I just go with WordPress for the whole nine yards?

There is a site where you can buy themes for wordpress and just import your things into it. www.themeforest.net (external link)

That is all I can help you with, sorry.

Hopefully someone else can help :)

I appreciate your help. I have not ventured into WordPress yet so I do not yet have a grasp o fit's capabilities and/or it's shortcomings as far as a stand alone program for a web site.

I'll learn though.

You can get a Wordpress template.

I decided to also host my own gallery and I use Piwigo for that. Check out the Galleries link in my signature.

Yes, the Piwigo looks very promising.

Use it, unless you love junk e-mail (spam). ;)

I am not really much of a "blogger" so what I would really like is just the ability to have a display venue for my photographs with some style.

I own the web site already and have it located at a hosting service that gives me plenty of space for photos. What I have been doing is creating (coding) my own pages - using tables and thumbnail images with direct links to much larger versions of the photos. But the process is pretty slow and clunky as well as bland. So what I would like is just a touch of style with some ease of creation. I typically upload 30 to 120 images at a time. A lot of the images are re sized to 1024 X768 (from the originals - which are NOT uploaded) for the larger size and then a thumbnail (256 X 192) is created and the larger image is linked. The pages are vanilla white background and a table is used to allow the whole thing to be "re sized" to fit monitor screens of various sizes. Only the smallest 800 X 600 will need to scroll the thumbnails usually. Makes it easier for the people that use the site the most.

I just really need to "work" with the programs (WordPress and the gallery offerings) to see what I like best. I already have the ability to "lock" or password protect any file, folder or image on my site (PITA - but I can do it) so that part isn't too worrisome. Just a lot of work that I was hoping could be made simpler by software! LOL!!

Will do right now although the program is NOT tied to any e-mail account and neither is the web site per se'. The web site does have it's own email client and handlers but I have hardly ever used them in the last 15 or so years. It has accounts open but they are rarely used and go nowhere. LOL!! I haven't ever even set up "forwarders" for them! LOL!!

I meant to say plain old spam posts, not e-mal spam. :o Without Akismet, you're going to get a bunch of unsolicited posts.
