Hi guys, just looking for a little insight on turning off my Sleep Mode so I can trigger some receivers. I recently inquired about this product (http://cgi.ebay.com.au …&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (external link)) for my Canon 60D + Nissin Di622, I asked the seller if the product will work with my equipment and this is the reply I got..

Hi,

I read some forum and people says that Nissin Di622
doesn't have wake
up function. therefore, if you need to use it with RF-602
you need to
turn off the sleep mode of your flash

...

Any feedback is much appreciated, thanks guys :)

On the hotshoe, with all six electrical contacts communicating with the flash, you can "wake it up" with a half-press of the shutter button.

The RF-602 receivers have contacts that don't appear to be the same layout as Canon. That doesn't matter, because the transmitter has only the single contact which fires the flash. There's no way you can wake up the flash with it.

Some of the Canon flash units have a custom function to disable the sleep mode, essentially keeping them "awake" until the batteries die. This solves the problem, but I do not know if the Nissin Di622 has such a feature.

With the flash unit set for slave mode, sleep mode is cancelled and the unit will not automatically turn off until 60 minutes have elapsed.

No idea if the hotshoe will work, however.

Energy saving system
The Di622 has a dual energy saving system.
It automatically enters sleep mode when it's not in use for 5 min., and is reset with a touch of the shutter button or any button of the flash.
If the unit is not in use for 30 minutes, it will automatically power off.

Put it on slave mode, put it on the camera, and fire a shot. There's your answer right there.

Otherwise just buy a different flash to use off-camera.

I read this on the internet..

If you have multiple Nissin units, you can place one as your main light and place other units as rim lights. However, they will all have identical exposures so you can’t set one as a subtle fill while the other as a main, for example.

...

Is there a way to set different exposures from the different Nissin units??

So you can't change the exposure on each individual flash?

You have a 60D, so you can wirelessly control A and B flash groups using the pop-up flash, but you need Canon wireless compatible units to do so. The 430EX & 430EX II, 580 series, and 320EX all work fine. I don't know about Nissin units, however.

The 60D wireless does work extremely well under the conditions specified by Canon.
