E-P3

PEN Lite and PEN Mini

http://www.dpreview.com …014olympusEPL3preview.asp (external link)

Theres a nice additional grip for the E-P3 too, Looks nice overall, I'll take the E-P3 personally(or maybe the E-PL3, I'm trying to understand the differences personally), but i can see the PEN Mini capturing a good segment of the P&S buyer crowd if its priced reasonably...

They claim the e-p3 has the fastest autofocus of any camera with interchangeable lenses. This to me, seems to include DSLRs, are they claiming their e-p3 has faster AF than, say, a 1DIV?

For single shot? its perhaps possible

But for action..i would still put my bets on a 1D IV

But Olympus has done this before, i believe they claimed the same on the E-3 with their 12-60 SWD lens...

Stepping down from the E-P3 to the E-PL3 you lose:
- Built-in flash (clip-on flash included for E-PL3)
- OLED 610K vs. LED 460K
- A dial and a lot of buttons
- Some art effects
- Grip (swappable and removable on the E-P3)

Gain:
- Tilt screen
- Faster continuous frame rate (5.5 fps vs. 3 fps)

Probably missed some points, but those are the ones I can think of.

I have this combo too, and you're right about slow AF. Just saw this video of E-P3 + 20mm:

It's not as fast as with Olympus "MSC" lenses, but compared to E-P1 + 20mm it's blazing fast.

Yeah, best to take their claim with a grain of salt. They test under very specific and narrow situations. In low light and for tracking AF I would still pick the 1DIV any day.

Having said that, it's amazing how fast they've gotten the single shot AF. It might not be faster than the fastest DSLRs in all situations, but the fact that it's even in the conversation at all is remarkable. Judging from the E-P3 AF videos I've seen, it's ridiculously fast at single shot AF.

No, you're not crazy! :) In the 7D's defense, it looks like it might've been tested with all AF points active? Hard to tell from the red AF points blinking--sometimes it looks like more points are active than there really are. Regardless, the E-P3 is awesome quick in single shot AF. That touch-screen-to-focus/shoot is a great feature that Panasonic pioneered in their cameras and I think we'll see a lot more of in the near future.

No, its single spot-af, center point :) All points youd only see the lines at the edges of the frame and you wouldnt have the box with a smaller box in the viewfinder..

And i like the touch to focus/shoot, Looks like a very low vibration way of doing things

Ouch. Beaten by a CDAF camera! Might've done better with a faster lens than the 24-105L though.

Not to mention super fast. Scrolling through AF points with control dials is for losers  I've lost many shots over the years while fiddling with AF point selection or focus-recompose. Soon that will be a worry of the past.

Lol i was pondering the 24-105's focus speed myself, i think the 15-85 would do better

Control dials? Who uses control dials to select the AF point on a 7D????
