I’ve always thought proper etiquette was to use existing threads when possible.

Figured “Minimal” could be applied to the concept of “Textures”, suppose I could start one and see if it takes off.

You're right that new threads are discouraged if they duplicate existing ones. Whether minimal includes textures is a judgment call. Sometimes a photographer's main interest in an image is its texture(s), and that may not be clear to viewers.
