Are you serious? How precise is it without cutting through the wires and electrocuting the pilot?

You think that is dangerous???....you oughta see the guy hanging on the tube by one hand while he's cranking the chainsaw with his other hand!!!!! ;-)a

I didn't make the post, so this may be something different, but I know I saw the same thing growing up in WV. I don't know how close they get. Most power lines have a pretty wide area cut around them. It's pretty cool to watch.

I used to watch these all the time in middle school. This is a chain saw, flown beside the power lines to cut trees away from the lines... I believe that's correct....

Close! It has 10 circular blades. They say they can trim 5 to 8 miles of railroad right of way per day.

Thanks... Wonder if it's the same thing I saw growing up? Either way.... It'd be cool to see in action up close.

Thanks and Great post.

This was for the railroad but the helicopter would not be a path to ground because they are insulated by the air.

Thanks and Great post.

They set down next to my office (rural area) for a few days so I got to talk to them and see the ground operations but not the actual work they do. I asked them about how a saw can sometimes jump away for what it is cutting and how well this works. Their response was "we'll see". They looked pretty experienced though.

I'll tell you what I really love about your photography is that you always find something interesting to photograph. And how you pull-out and organize shapes is a gift.

Actually it's not a chain type saw. That could pull a rotor craft in directions quickly. They are circular saw blades spinning at high speed. Quick clean cuts.

Rolling door. The ground is littered with tiny flowers from a nearby flowering tree.
