Will you please post a link to the new rules? I can't find them. I know the rules were 100 yards from bears and wolves when outside of a vehicle, but the last I knew, one could photograph at any distance from within a properly parked vehicle.

http://www.nps.gov …rvisit/bears_roadside.htm (external link) is all I could find about roadside bears.

I believe Yellowsonte is adopting these rules also. Best place to find a bear - off road.

The rules were and are 100 yards from bears and wolves when outside of a vehicle, whether near a vehicle or hiking, in both Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP. The possible changes seem to apply when in a vehicle. Maybe both parks are concerned about http://www.nps.gov/yell/parknews/11073.htm (external link) , although the news in the link seems to have nothing to do with vehicle viewing.

Does anyone have a link to the new rules?

Link from Jackson Hole news. Changes went into effect immediately.

"Because of increasing bear jams around two grizzly mothers, Grand Teton National Park changed wildlife viewing rules Wednesday to keep people in vehicles 100 yards away from bears and wolves."

I'm also pretty sure this also includes no more standing on top of your vehicle for pictures, regardless of vehicle height.

Best I can do is here:

http://www.nps.gov …ent-s-Compendium-2011.PDF (external link)

Superintendent's Conpendium dated July 26, 2011. I believe page 2 discuss the new ordinance. While it does not specifically state vehicles, the general opinion and consensus is that by not saying "vehicles" and simply stating that you must at all times be 100 yards away regardless of the situation, vehicles are included. Additionally, if you have ever seen a bear jam, you know that the bear's travel corridor may be impeeded or changed due to traffic, which is now unlawful.
