7D, ISO:3200 sample picture

So many threads about 7D and 'poor' higher ISO performance.

I love my 7D and she does higher ISO, just fine.

Is this a crop from the original image, or did you resample the original image down to 1024x768 to get it to fit the forum?

If you resampled the image, then you've effectively processed some of the noise out of the image.. The best way to show noise is to do a straight crop and post that.

I get very good ISO 3200 performance from my 60D as well. Just takes a little noise reduction in CS5 and some care with sharpening. Same sensor as the 7D and basically same result.

I had not done any noise reduction, sharpening, or processing at all.

And to what purpose might that serve if one doesn't intend to print the photo at 4-feet by 6-feet? Do people actually view photos these days or do people just focus on pixels?

Is NR turned off, in camera ?

That's true, if you want to zoom in closer than you'd ever actually view the image and nitpick about the noise you're bound to find...

Or you can look at the image at a more realistic scale and not see much or any noise.

OP, the "Poor High ISO Performance" threads are ridiculous... 7D images are usable about a stop higher ISO than 40D or 50D... period. 5DII are good for about another full stop on top of that.

People need to make actual prints or look at the images in sizes and resolutions that they'll actually be displayed online, rather than zooming in to 100%. If you magnify any image enough, it will start to fall apart and give you something to whine about in forum postings, if that's what someone really wants to do.

I have several 20x30 photos taken at 1600 printed and hanging up and oddly enough, I really don't see any noise. Now granted my nose isn't touching the print but that's not how I view photos.

And my statement is true no matter what camera one shoots with. Like my signature states... I feel for you pixel peepers. Life's too short to worry about such stupidity, but that's just my opinion.

Of course, if somebody is printing a 4ft x 6ft image, they aren't intending for it to be viewed at a distance of four feet. The viewer will probably be 15-20 feet away and, voila, noise will once again not be an issue.

i put my zoom at 200% and my nose 3 inches from the screen and man I hate my 60D it's just so noisy and soft and I am so disappointed and I may switch to Nikon because a hear they are so much better with everything and wow aston kutcher uses them so they must be amazing and i am so sad that my canon doesn't look better than this

I agree, the shots from my 60D with minimal if any post look pretty darn good, and once I am done ramming them through DxO and Lightroom 3 they are outstanding at any monitor or reasonable print resolution/size. People need to stop peeping and start taking pictures.
