I have been looking for a good camera store to get some older camera bodies overhauled, specifically my AE-1 Program and my AE-1. Both bodies work well but I've had them for 15 years plus and they have never been throughly cleaned and lubed.

Does anyone know of a camera store in the Chicago or Northern Illinois area that would overhaul them? Or barring that a shop I could ship them to that does good work.

The store I work at works with a shop in a suburb of Columbus - Camtronics. (external link) If you don't find anywhere local, give them a buzz. If I recall correctly, a complete overhaul will run you about $115.

Cleaned & lubed?

Honestly, any decent camera store that's been in business more than 10 years ought to be able to perform that kind of work.

Or there's always United Camera Repair in Bensenville.

But really... do you intend to actually use them?

I still use them for fun once in a while. I shot a couple of rolls through the AE-1P a few months ago and it still clicked right along.

I'll have to check out United Camera Repair.

You should drop the AE1 and get an FTb or an F1.

You know, real cameras :)

It's the whole sentimental value thing being that those are my first two cameras.

I am looking hard at getting a T90 though as I've always wanted one of those.
