Hello,

Just made my first trip to the Adorama store in NY and felt like a kid in a candy store. Only wish I had more money to spend. Speaking of I was pleasantly surprised that the prices were right there with online retailers that I was planning on using. For example Op-Tech straps, eneloop bateries and cleaning devices (that I actually bought) were exact same price as Amazon and I didnt have to wait to get it.
I will try to be more prepared for next time though as far as my shopping list goes.

The downside was that I got a parking ticket for $115 while I was putting money into the meter machine which was literally 20 feet away from my vehicle. How he/she got there (and left) within couple of minutes of me getting out of the car is beyond me. He had to have seen me but slapped me with it anyway.

What is the purpose of this post? I guess just to share my excitement of being able to visit a real photo store and be able to deal with people who know what they are talking about (cant say that for "specialists" at big box stores around here). its pretty important to a noob like myself.
Too bad its about 2.5 hour ride from where I live.

I will definitely go there next time.
Adorama was closer to where I was at the time so chose to go there first. Plus I like Mark Wallace youtube videos. :)

LOL I'm talking more about pics of the inside of Adorama...with all the long white Canon lenses, etc etc etc.

Its definitely a talent of the meter maids, and they are good at it.... if you have a record of you putting money in at the same time as getting a ticket, you can probably get it tossed out. Though being 2.5 hours away is rough...

I highly recommend taking the train in if you can :)

True. I was, however, a bit intimidated by them and was too shy to flash my little Rebel. ;)

Jmg, usually I would have (that's probably why I had no idea how these things work there) but I dropped friends off at JFK and decided to swing by on the way back.

Sorry to disappoint you but Nikon has literally dumped a lot of money in the retail sector. All you see is a big Nikon poster. Same as BH. Adorama does not have lenses behind the counter. You see that in BH. You can try it and etc.

Adorama was the first photography store I visited. I had the opposite reaction. I was completely underwhelmed by what I saw. B and H on the other hand...

Only thing I can compare it to is chain retailers so for me it was pretty cool to be in a store dedicated to photography. B&H may blow me away once I get there, who knows?

Did you park on the road in front of Adorama before 6PM? If you did, you would've gotten a ticket no matter if you fed the meter or not. That road is commercial vehicle parking only before 6PM. I got a $115 ticket the first time I went there because the signs are confusing in saying "metered and commercial only," when metered does not refer to putting money in the machine.

Well, that sucks, Ant. Reading the signs I did not figure it out. I got "3 hour limit for commercial vehicles" and that others were good as long as the meter was paid. oh well, I am pleading not guilty first and shall see what happens.

I guess we get spoiled in CT with (mostly) free parking everywhere we go. ;)
