Hi Roxie,
I'm not at home now and can't check my version of ExifToolGUI, but the screen capture I posted above was from a RAW file. I think that what happens is that the jpg format supports the creation of a separate xmp or vrd section in the metadata, but the CR2 format does not allow this. I imagine that Canon could have included this feature in the CR2 - it is built on the tif architecture and standard tifs do support xmp insertion - but they have their own reasons for not wanting third party converters to be able to do this. So LR, ACR and the others have to save their edits in a sidecar file and DPP, since it can't write the vrd in a separate section - as it would do with a jpg, makes it an addendum to the Maker Notes.

Yes, it did ExifGUI did change in Version 4.0 -- checked with the author and the Canon vrd will be back in the Maker Notes in the next update. Its a really good tool for managing data. Looks like it handles LR and DPP.
