Nice shots! Were these all taken with your Sigma 70-200 2.8??

I'm visiting my bro in the Caribbean in couple of weeks time - he's big into kite boarding and I'd love to get some good pics but don't have a suitable lens yet....

I know it's well built (i.e. quite heavy!) - do you know how it compares to Canon 70-200 (f4 and f2.8)?

Sigma 70-200 weighs 1270g / 44.08OZ.
Much heavier than Canon 70-200 f4. Slightly lighter than 2.8 non IS (1310g) or 2.8 IS 1470g.

Wow, great shots. What kind of kite are they attached to? Never seen or heard of this before. Thanks for sharing.

Large ones!
Often called power kites or traction kites.
Really started taking off around 1997.
Kites range from about 5 - 20 square metres - enough to easily
provide the power a ski boat would.

i looked at the sigma, got the impresion it din't focus as fast as any of the canons which were far more comfortable in the hand. canons also felt far more solid. outdors in the caribean sun... the f4.

were most of these shots from a boat?

Choderboy - nice shots. I was up in Milwaukee a couple of weeks ago and took some shots of some kite boarders on the lake, but had no idea how to approach it. It was at sunset and they were too far out for my 70-200 which was the biggest lens I had with me, so I went for shots with the kite in frame too. I can see that up tight works much better. Cheers - not bad shooting for having used a "slower" focusing lens.... looks like you made the best of it. Imagine if you had a canon....... ah.. I will leave it alone...

Actually these were all taken from the beach. General pattern for kiteboarders is to "tack" back and forth from the shore , usually doing more of their tricks closer to the shore where the water is smoother. I often have to zoom OUT with the 70-200!
