Is this a smart move to get both or should I just get one? I know I will love more then the other, but I believe these two lenses complement each other perfect. Give me your input. Thanks in advance.

I have and use both....a lot. My 50 gets a lot more use though. But I've been use that FL for about 30 years now, so it's kinda grown on me... Canon EOS 1n|Canon 40mm Pancake|Canon 50mm/1.8

They are very different focal lengths, but for my use, they were too close- of course your mileage may vary. I tend to like prime combos that are more spaced out so they get more use (ie 35/85/135 or 24/50/100) since I don't like have good lenses in a bag that aren't getting used.
