I have a full version of CS4 but cannot find a way to open my CR2 files in ACR. I tried to do it from PS and Bridge but no dice. File type not supported or something to that extent is what I get.

What am I missing?

The "file type not supported" message means that you don't have a version of ACR that supports your camera model installed.

You have to update the version of ACR currently installed. There are several ways to do an update but the easiest method is to open either Photoshop or Adobe Bridge and go to Help > Updates and allow the Adobe Updater to run. Once the Updater starts running close either Adobe Bridge or Photoshop so the files can be installed correctly.

I actually tried it via updater but got a message that it couldnt complete the update installation. :(
I dont remember if I closed the software before the installation started.

Try it again.

If not you can go directly to Adobe's website and download and manually install the latest compatible version for CS4: http://www.adobe.com …sp?ftpID=4683&fileID=4375 (external link)

What camera?

For a 1100D for instance, you'd need to use the latest DNG converter (6.4.1) to convert the CR2 iles to DNG.
The DNG files then can be opened with any version ACR.

Edit: Nevermind. I see a 500D in your sig. ACR 5.7 should work fine then.

launched an update through PS and then closed the program. it tried to install it after the download but "encountered a problem" and could not finish.
The link, however, worked perfectly. Thank you, Pixel.

Now what? LOL

On this download page, there are instructions: http://www.adobe.com …ads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4681 (external link)

(no idea why Adobe offers the same DL twice…)
