Hi all,

We've not been on the forum for awhile, but it's been an extraordinarily busy and somewhat hectic nesting season here. In our earlier report we were happy to announce the successful fledging (of five) from Missy's 1st nest of the season. Another perfect nesting for her (and the first with her new mate, Ben).

The 2nd nesting (of six) was not so perfect... 2 chicks died in the box for reasons unknown just prior to fledging, and we've apparently lost another since the remaining 4 left the box. Fortunately, the surviving 3 are doing well and appearing on the deck now daily:

A 3rd nest (of five) was due to hatch on July 1st, but sadly was lost (all five eggs destroyed by a House Wren apparently). Missy has re-built a 4th nest now and we're hoping for a first egg today or tomorrow.

Please join us in wishing them better luck this time around.

Kenn

Thanks to all for your encouraging comments.

I'm happy to report that Missy does indeed have her first egg in that 4th nest now.

We'll be back,

Kenn :)

Glad to hear an update, Kenn. And to see all your wonderful images of the birds. Nature takes its course and it's not always as pretty as your pics.

So sad when chicks are lost but the survivors look fantastic. Missy is quite a mom and she's seems to have found a good mate. Congrats Kenn and hopefully these little ones will be just as fruitful for your Bluebird haven.

As always, great series of shots.

Very cute! I lost my first nest to a predator (not sure what, snake maybe) and my 2nd nest is doing fine. Chicks are 10 days old now and I've been watching them on the nestbox camera. Hope to get some photos when they fledge!
