Bryan,

If you place any value on your time, then the time you have already spent futzing with these things has cost you more than a set of Cybersyncs.

Professionals recognize the importance of professional quality tools.

What happens if you keep them shaded, Bryan? As in, velcro them UNDER your Strobe's body so they are protected from direct sun. If I ran into that problem, first thing I'd do is keep them shaded.

That is my next step.

Curtis, you are completely right, but this is the only problem I have had with them yet, and if I can find a way to get around this issue, then all the better. I have emailed GI and will see what they say.

Just as an update, I received an email back from GI saying:

Dear Bryan,

Thank you for contacting us. We are terribly sorry to hear all 6 of your transceivers experience a heat problem during your outdoor shoot.

Indeed there has been a small number of batch with problem while operating in the heat. Despite the V5 initially satisfied all lab tests, we have now replaced a new component which will sustain up to 59°C / 138°F. Our technical team have conducted outdoor environment tests for 2-3 hours where the temperature is above 60°C.
Please return your transceivers and we will send you a tested replacement with the new component.

Don’t worry. You are certainly covered by our 'guarantee policy' listed on our website. This is:

(1) We accept return of defective or unsatisfactory item(s) within 30 days of purchase;
(2) Upon receiving the returned item, we would either send you a replacement or refund the item price to you;
(3) The cost for returning the item(s) shall be borne by you. We will only be responsible for the shipping cost of the replacement.

You can send back for a tested replacement unit.

For all Cactus products the above policy is valid for up to 1 year.

To return, please send the transceivers back to:

Harvest One Limited
9D On Shing Ind. Bldg.,
2-16 Wo Liu Hang Road,
Fo Tan, Hong Kong
(REPLACEMENT ORDER 67124 + 73748)

Please include a copy of our full correspondence, in the returned package for our easy handling. We will contact you within 2 working days upon item receipt.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Best regards,
Antonio Lao

Thanks for the update. Glad to know GI will stand by their product and are aware of the problem and taking care of it. :)

I just tried it again, placed my triggers out in the heat for 15 minutes (not plugged in, not powered on) and they failed to work afterwards. After bringing them into the air conditioned house, about 15 minutes later they started working again. Anyone else having this issue with the Cactus V5?

I finally had an oppertunity to test mine. Temperature in the shade was 92 degrees (33 Celsius). One transmitter and three receivers left out in the sun for half an hour. Then I did a series of shots. Fired every time.

I hope it doesn't get any hotter here but if it does I'll test them again.

Did the replacement units do better outdoors / in the heat?

Any comments would be appreciated. I need to buy a number of reliable radio triggers and these seem to be a good value, however, the problems in the heat have been mentioned in more than 1 forum. Hopefully they have fixed whatever was causing the problem

Thanks

Ron
